Last night I grabbed a dear mom friend and her daughter Ella for a girls night out to see Cinderella presented by the Premiere Playhouse. If you haven’t been there in a while the Orpheum is clean and pretty -definitely an escape for the night. The show runs until April 30th so you still have time to catch the show! When we walked into the theatre to find our seats we were greeted with calming 70’s music. “70’s music at Cinderella?!” you might ask. That’s right as the play has a fresh twist in it that was quite good!
Kid review of the show and comments throughout the night: *two thumbs up* “Did you know that Cinderella’s name was really Ella like me but they call her Cinderella from cleaning the fireplace? I smiled and sang along through the whole thing. It reminds you that the impossible is happening every day! I liked the dancing, Cinderella’s dress, and the fairy Godmother. I reeeallly liked the kids in it, they made me want to be up there too! I loooooved the dancing!”
And a few mom points:
Staff was welcoming and the concessions took cards. It is interesting to note that the play is the Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella -same Cinderella story line but will be a fresh take from a Disney version. The whole thing was very well cast and the actors did phenomenal jobs in their roles. Our favorite costume of the night was definitely the fairy Godmother’s pant suit but there were a lot of amazing costumes! Any scene with the fairy Godmother in it we loved. The animal/kid scenes were adorable and clever. We would say it’s suitable for all ages but would probably not take a kid younger than the 2nd grader we brought as it is two and a half hours long. The lights and snow were magical! We were surprised that there was an actual golden carriage along with some well-planned magical change scenes. We all enjoyed ourselves!
It is so amazing that we have a venue like this in Sioux Falls it feels great to support it!
Until our next adventure,
Andrea, Britta, & Ella
